Some "after" photos

This weekend the temperature went down to 50 degrees at night.  It felt great, but reminded us that summer can't last forever.

We are still finishing up the restoration work, but here are a few photos of the cabin with new stain and top coat.

The posts on the porch are not done because we want to sand them first.  We are very happy with how it is coming out.  The contractor says it makes him want to eat pancakes because of Log Cabin Syrup from his childhood.  It reminds us of Lincoln Logs.

Mom, one of the lilacs began to sprout!  You'll see them in the fall!

The woods as you head down the drive. The shadow at bottom left is cast by the peak of Overlook Mountain.

Very happy trees.

A few quick updates

The cabin should be completely stained by the end of today. It looks beautiful!  Pictures to come.

We closed the cabin front door, walked out and hopped in the car.  As we backed away form the cabin a big bear ran from behind a wood pile to behind the cabin.  Awesome, but no camera at the ready.  We also came upon a juvenile crossing a nearby road.  We stopped to watch him/her pull up a massive slab of stone to do some grubbing. So strong.  Finn was in the back seat barking and whimpering because he so desperately wanted to chase the bear.  That is a very, very bad impulse.  We worry about that often.  We had a cell phone with us so we tried to get a picture...

... and missed getting the bear in the frame.  Oh, well.

Turkeys just passing through.

This piece of stained, glass was embedded in the front wall of the dormer that was just restored.  We decided not to put it back in, but found a place of honor for it since it was part of the original construction.

When Finn is not chasing squirrels or deer, or just running for the heck of it, he is a soft, over-sized lap dog.
